The Centre for Women’s and Gender Research at the University of Warsaw invites you to the seminar Gender-based violence in context of the Istanbul Convention that will be held on 7th of May 2021 at 15:30 (CEST) on Zoom.
Keynote speakers will be:
Professor Marilisa D’Amico and Dr. Costanza Nardocci from the Department of Italian and Supranational Public Law at the University of Milan
Professor Barbara Namysłowska-Gabrysiak and Dr. Małgorzata Dziewanowska from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw.
The seminar opens the cycle of quarterly debates: Women and gender in the contemporary world. These events with the participation of speakers representing various academic disciplines and a wide range of social and cultural fields are to share knowledge, experiences and research results within a wide group of people interested in women’s and gender issues.
The first seminar will address the topic of gender-based violence in Italy and Poland, particularly in the context of the Istanbul Convention. Gender-based violence is one of the most notable human rights violations within all societies. The Istanbul Convention (Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence) is the benchmark for international legislation on tackling gender-based violence. During the seminar we will discuss the situation of women in Poland and Italy and the consequences related to the Istanbul Convention termination.
